USACE Auditorium and Training Facility, Ft. Detrick, MD
Fort Detrick looks to provide a positive influence on the local community and state while also serving multiple National Security Missions since the 1940s. The U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Detrick provides sustainable base operations support, quality of life programs, and environmental stewardship. This base supports elements of all four military services.
This project was to construct alterations to Building 1520 for the use of a 350-seat community Auditorium which is 10,125 square feet. Another part of the project was to expand the existing Education Center which is 18,500 square feet. The Auditorium renovations include a lobby, storage, back stage space, and restrooms for the Auditorium. The Education Center includes both general and special purpose classrooms, offices, storage and a direct corridor connection to the existing library and other community support activity space. The renovation is designed in a modular fashion to help promote multi-purpose use.
As a sub consultant to Grunley Construction, Susquehanna Valley Engineering Group, Inc. provided the Building Commissioning Services for this project.
The project includes new HVAC, electronic security and information systems; and extending the existing electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems into the new second floor. Heating was provided by a gas-fired furnace, and cooling was provided by a self-contained unit. The existing systems were adequate for water, sewer, and electric. Underground cable was added for the information systems. Required antiterrorism and physical security measures for the alteration of Building 1520 were implemented for this project. This includes the reorganization of parking and vehicular circulation to and around the building.
Equipment that was Commissioned:
