West Elementary School Renovations and Addition
Womelsdorf, PA
Conrad Weiser West Elementary School serves grades Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. The school is located in Womelsdorf, which is in Burks County, Pennsylvania. This project required the original building to be completely renovated. This included the expansion of the library and a new, full gymnasium. Two new Kindergarten classrooms were added and the art and music rooms were expanded and upgraded. Three playgrounds were also renovated with several pieces of new equipment.
As a sub consultant to Contracting Systems, Inc. II, SVE Group provided the LEED AP Administrative services for this project.
The West Elementary School project addressed the need for additional classroom space, upgrade to the infrastructure, accessibility, security, and building code issues. The project is looking to reach LEED Certification by improving the indoor environment and following LEED guidelines during the design and construction phases of the project. A lot of the original building was reused in the design and construction of the new additions and renovations. The air conditioning and a host of new systems helped to make the building more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. The building also has a white roof to minimize the effect of heat and sun, and a geothermal heating system was incorporated as well as insulated windows. All of these improvements helped the building reach LEED Certification.
SVE Group's work includes LEED credit validation and documentation. SVE Group coordinated through the Contracting Officer with the government's LEED consultant on assuring that the assembled data is acceptable to USGBC. We also responded to USGBC requests for additional construction data in the course of seeking project Certification. Our final deliverable for the project includes a LEED Documentation Notebook that is formatted to match the LEED numbering system and tabbed for each credit and prerequisite.
