Shenandoah National Park, Page County, Virginia

The National Park Service is a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Interior.  The fundamental purpose of the NPS is to conserve the scenery, the natural and historic objects and the wild life.  The NPS works to leave these unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.

Susquehanna Valley Engineering Group, Inc. was awarded the Building Commissioning Services for a project for the Shenandoah National Park 3rd Floor Headquarters Maintenance Building, located in Virginia.  SVE Group served as a sub to TMG Construction Corporation.

The Headquarters area entrance is located between the town of Luray and the Thornton Gap Entrance Station on Highway 211.  The maintenance area is located at the end of the Headquarters access road.  The Headquarters Maintenance Building is two and a half stories, has a split face block exterior and a metal roof with dormers.  The work includes a tenant fit out of the unoccupied third floor space:  minor demolition, new partitions, floors, ceilings, new stair, new windows, and repairs to the existing roof, insulation, finishes, mechanical and electrical.

This project does its best to preserve the natural features by preventing damage to the natural surroundings.  This was done by restoring damaged areas, and repairing or replacing damaged trees and plants.  The contractor provided temporary barriers to protect the existing trees, plants, and root zones when needed.  No ropes, cables, or guys were fastened to existing trees to help protect the natural surroundings.  Another way the environment was protected was by carefully supervising the excavating, grading, filling, and other construction operations near trees to prevent damage.  At the conclusion of the work, the contractor graded and reseeded the two areas described as "Contractor Staging Areas".  The driveways, parking areas and entrances were kept clear and available to the Government, Government's employees, and emergency vehicles at all times.
